Are you Beautiful? Post 2

Ok, now back to the original topic: beauty.  The Bible says in...

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a women who fears the Lord is to be praised.

1 Peter 3:3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.  Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

So you're asking yourself "ok, if my beauty is supposed to come from the inside, then what do I wear on the outside?"  Well, I wouldn't suggest what the women of Zion were wearing and how they were acting.  It first lists what the women were wearing and how they were acting, then the consequences because of that:

Isaiah 3:16-26
The Lord says, "The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, tripping along with mincing steps, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.  Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the Lord will make their scalps bald."  In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, the earrings and bracelets and veils, the headdresses and ankle chains and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, the signet rings and nose rings, the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls.  Instead of fragrance, there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding.  Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle.  The gates of Zion will lament and mourn; destitute, she will sit on the ground.

Wow!  Even the men suffered for what the women did.

Well, you might be asking "that shows me what 'not' to wear, so what 'can' I wear?"  Well, I'll ask you two questions then give you another test and then see if you can answer that question for yourself.

Question 1 - What if you walked into a room full of people dressed in something that you would normally wear, what would their first thought be?

*what a lovely, modest girl!

*how sad, she must not have any self respect for herself.

*is that a boy or girl?

*she must be carrying a wilted spirit.

*she must be insecure.

Question 2 - Ask some of your Christian friends to honestly describe you with one or two words, what would they say?  Do you want to be known as that?

And now for the test:

1. When some of your friends decide they want to hang out doing a certain thing that you'd rather not do, do you:

A. Distance yourself and hold a grudge.
B. Keep talking to try to overpower the majority and get your way.
C. Listen to everyone's feelings and try to bring about a happy compromise.

2. When you've just gotten another long writing assignment from your lit teacher, do you:

A. Refuse to do it because she's assigned way to much this quarter.
B. Do it but bad-mouth the teacher to your parents and friends.
C. Do it- she's your teacher and you're called to respect her.

3. When your mom asks you to take out the trash just as you sit down for the first all day, do you:

A. Throw a royal fit.
B. Grumble under your breath and do it....grumpily.
C. Do it with all your heart to please your mom.

4. When your little brother wants the same computer you had planned to use to IM your best friend, do you:

A. Tease him the whole time you use it.
B. Tell him what you think he should be doing.
C. Let him go first.

5. When you think someone has made a mistake, do you:

A. Want to be the first to correct it.
B. Try to take over because you can lead better.
C. Try to cover it up until you can mention it quietly to the person.

6. Do you go to church because:

A. You have to, but you hate it.
B. You have good friends there, and it's a great social outlet.
C. You love God and want to be in His house.

[ok, score it.]

Were you mostly A's?
You are wearing the wrong stuff, friend!

Were you mostly B's?
You should try harder to wear better stuff inside.

Were you mostly C's?
Great!  Keep up the good work!

Are you beautiful? Post 1

"Well, here you are.

How do you feel today?

Beautiful or boring?

Well-groomed or well-worn?

Are you feeling over weight?

Or tanned and toned?

Are your friendships building you up or giving you courage?

Or have they left you raw and lonely?

Is your heart in a good place and filled with strength, or are you carrying a wilted spirit?

All to often I find that girls and women who dress immodestly are simply hiding a wilted spirit."

(Quoted from Dannah Gresh in her book "Secret Keeper Devos".)

What makes you beautiful?

Is it your hair or clothing? Or maybe it's ______ or ________ ... you fill in the blanks.

Let me ask you something: deep, deep down inside are you happy? Truly happy? Or not? Are you short term or long term happy? Do you live a life full of regret day by day? Are you lacking something? Are you a slave to lies such as 'I need a boyfriend' or 'I have to be beautiful to be accepted'.

Pause and answers these questions for yourself and then keep reading.

I'm going to touch on the subject of vocations quick and then get back to the original subject. I have a little test for you: List the following vocations in order of importance.
*Doctor
*President
*Mother
*Theologian (Pastor)
*Missionary
*Father

Fully think about each jobs responsibilities. Were you able to complete the task? Are some vocations 'more important' than others? What makes a calling noble? Answer these questions for yourself.

How are you?

By Erlene Unruh

Hello!

And how are you today?

I'm fine, just fine. And you?
Me too.

We smile and pass each other by

And find some secret place to cry;
Ashamed to show

Or let them know.

The hurts and loneliness and failures

we must hide

Afraid someone will see us as we are

inside;

Bright smiles covering doubts that crush and tear--

These masks we wear!

How can we help those heavy loads to bear

Or let each other know we care

If we don't dare

To share?

Isn't this true? We wear masks so no one knows what we truly feel inside. But think of it this way, every time you say "Yeah, I'm fine" but are really not; that's lying in God's eyes. "Ouch" doesn't that sting? I know it stung me when I realised it. You may think "that's a little to strong for me" but I'm serious. You might say "Oh, but you don't know my situation! So this doesn't apply to me." But it does! You could still say the truth even if it's something like "oh, I'm not doing ok today" or "I had a bad day" or "My day was great!" something other than "I'm fine".

Here is a Bible verse to think about:

Matthew 5:37

"Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

Sorry about the formatting, my computer is giving me trouble.

Medieval time

Well, you all know that I like to knit so the following will be no surprise for you. I'm studying the Medieval time period in history so I thought that I would give myself a challenge. I've been making barbie and polly pocket clothes for ahile but I thought that I'd do something new. So I made a polly pocket dress from medieval time. I figured that I'd share the pics I took and see what you all think. It's ok to laugh, I know it looks funny because we don't wear that now a days.

This is the steeple head dress:

Some encouragement

I heard this story on the radio the other day and it gave me some encouragement so I thought that you all might find some encouragement from it too. It's the story of Mark Anderson, a track and field athlete called "Running to Win". It's an amazing story on how God is real! I'd like to ask you all a question. I've been asking myself this question too, but I don't want to know what you think. I just want you to think about it for yourselves. In the end of the program when Mark talks about how he was delivered from drugs and he starts jumping around on his new high and when he said that it gets stronger every day it made me think, am I on a high from Christ in me? Am I showing God's joy in me? Do I have a zeal for Christ? Am I seeing God working every day in my life? Are other people seeing Christ in me? Mark is right there at the end when he says that people are ready and they want a REAL God not a dead one. Are we willing to show them that HE IS REAL and that HE wants to have a relationship with them?

Poems

I was reading a book this morning for school about Amy Carmichael and in the book it gave a bunch of poems and verses that seemed to jump out at me, so I thought that I would share them.

True peace of heart can be found
Only by resisting the passions,
Not by yielding to them.
-Thomas A. Kempis

Thou hast put goodness in my heart.
Thou will perfect that which concerneth me.
Lord, let the glow of Thy great love
Through my whole being shine.
-Amy Carmichael

Think truly, and thy thoughts shalt be
Spotless with God's own purity.
On every thought-bud let us bear
The stamp of truth, and love and prayer.
-Amy Carmichael

I have no word,
But neither hath the bird,
And it is heard;
My heart is singing, singing all day long,
In quiet joy to Thee Who art my song.
For as Thy majesty
So is Thy mercy,
So is Thy mercy.
My Lord and my God.
-Amy Carmichael

Mark 8:35-38
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it;
but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Isaiah 41:13
For I the Lord they God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Jude 1:24
Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you fautless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.

Praying these poems and verses will help you!
